10 Things You Can Do on Mother's Day to Feel Great About Yourself

Author: Lauren Gottschalk-Scher
Sleep In
Mothers are usually very tired. Ask your partner to get up with the children on Mother's Day so you can get some rest. If they plan to bring you breakfast in bed, tell them to wait until you're awake!
Make a List
Give yourself a break from your “mommy guilt.” Make a list of all the things you do exceptionally well for your children, and allow yourself to be proud of your excellent mothering skills.
Take a Bath
Treat yourself to a nice, relaxing bath. Light candles, listen to music, and add a few drops of essential oil to the bathwater. Lavender works especially well to help you relax while also soothing your skin.
Deep Condition Your Hair
As you bathe, massage olive oil into your scalp and disperse throughout your hair, concentrating on the ends, to moisturize and improve the appearance of damaged hair. Let the olive oil sit for at least 15 minutes, then rinse it out and shampoo thoroughly.
Give Yourself a Facial
Mix three teaspoons of olive oil with one teaspoon of sugar and gently rub it all over your face, avoiding your eyes, for 30-60 seconds to exfoliate. Rinse, and then apply a mask of mashed avocado, mashed banana, or honey to your face, avoiding your eyes. Use one of these ingredients, or a mixture of some or all of them. Place slices of cucumber over your eyes to eliminate puffiness. Let your face mask and cucumbers sit for at least 15 minutes before rinsing.
Family Trip to the Farmer's Market
Take the whole family to the farmers market for some fresh air and exercise. Have your family buy you some freshly cut flowers. Pick out your favorite fruits and vegetables and have them make you dinner. You'll feel great about eating a healthy family meal and making purchases that are good for your local community and the planet.
Get a Manicure and Pedicure
Get your nails done at a salon, either by yourself or with your own mother or daughter. If this isn't an option, do your own nails. Exfoliate your feet with a pumice stone or sugar scrub and massage lotion onto your hands and feet before painting your nails.
Get Your Makeup Done
Most makeup counters at department stores will do your makeup for free, with the expectation that you will buy one of the products they use. You'll learn some new makeup tips, get yourself a little gift, and look beautiful and feel great. Take a quick family photo while you're looking your best. It doesn't have to be frame worthy – just good enough to elicit some well-deserved compliments on Facebook!
Make Time for Old Hobbies
All mothers have something they used to love doing before having children, but no longer have the time and energy for. Whether it is knitting, reading, spending time with friends, or going to a movie, make it a priority to enjoy your old hobby this Mother's Day.
Tuck Your Children into Bed
There's no better way to feel good on Mother's Day than to spend some relaxed time with your children. For this one night, indulge your children's request for one more story, or five more minutes of cuddling, instead of rushing the bedtime routine. Take time to feel the love you have for each other, and know that they appreciate the great job you've done raising them.
